Astronomy MSc

2024.12.18.
Astronomy MSc

The aim of this program is to provide advanced professional knowledge in astronomy, enabling students to undertake guided, and later independent, research in their chosen area within astronomy. Graduates will be skilled in performing modern observations and measurements, interpreting these theoretically, and contributing new ideas to the advancement of astronomy. They will also be equipped to share their well-founded knowledge with society.

The ideal candidate is committed to exploring the universe beyond Earth, has a solid background in mathematics, physics, and computing, and possesses some foundational knowledge in astronomy. They are eager to advance our understanding of astronomy through theoretical research or through telescopic and satellite-based observations. The candidate should have at least intermediate proficiency in English (writing, reading, and speaking) and be motivated to improve their language skills further.

Typically, two or three graduates from the astronomy program continue their studies with doctoral scholarships at Hungarian universities; a similar number find positions in research institutions, while one or two pursue careers at universities and research institutions abroad.

Language of Instruction

The program is offered in both Hungarian and English.

Career Opportunities

An astronomy degree is complemented by strong training in physics and computing, so astronomers who choose not to work in their field or are unable to do so have a good chance of securing positions at companies specializing in IT, communications, or related areas.
