Chemistry MSc

The chemistry program has been a defining form of higher education in the inanimate natural sciences for decades, with especially strong traditions at ELTE. At the Master’s level, graduates receive high-level foundational knowledge in chemistry and related fields, preparing them to independently study and solve tasks and problems within their chosen scientific areas, particularly in research and technical development. They are also equipped to hold independent and leadership roles, for example, in chemical production, environmental management, and environmental protection.
The ideal candidate should have a strong passion for chemistry and the natural sciences. They must demonstrate to the admissions committee a comprehensive understanding of chemistry, a solid grasp of its various areas, and an ability to perceive the interconnections within chemistry and across other natural sciences. This interdisciplinary perspective is especially important for applicants without a chemistry background. Since the admissions exam is oral, good communication skills are also advantageous.
A chemistry degree opens up numerous successful career paths. Graduates typically face no employment challenges, as this versatile degree is highly valued in the international job market. The program’s industrial connections are unique within the natural sciences, and graduates are well-positioned to secure roles in the chemical and pharmaceutical industries. Additionally, there are ample opportunities in traditional research, administration, and service fields. Some subfields, such as analytical and preparative chemistry, are considered high-demand areas.
