Talent support of the outstanding students is helped by the network of the ELTE colleges of centuries-old traditions. The five colleges are self-governed education and research workshops for the most talented students.

The oldest of the colleges is the Eötvös József Collegium which was established in 1895 by Eötvös Loránd. The college building has been a declared monument since 2014. On the southern side of Gellért Hill, 20-30 minutes from the university campuses, Eötvös József Collegium has been offering small group seminar and tutorial training based on personal relationships for 125 years, complementing university education. This method of work is based on the conviction and experience that personal interaction is an essential component of a productive intellectual environment. At the Collegium, students from five faculties (Humanities, Science, Informatics, Social Sciences, and Economics) and those participating in undivided teacher training form workshops with their instructors (currently, eighteen such units operate in the Collegium). These workshops organize and coordinate seminars, tutorial classes, and professional lectures, assist and guide students' scientific work, and manage the specialized library. Alongside acquiring scientific knowledge, gaining pedagogical skills is an integral part of the Collegium's training, ensuring that students can pass on the acquired knowledge at a high level.
