Hungarian high school students are preparing for the chemistry Olympiads
This is the 56th time that the preparatory and selection camp for the future Hungarian teams of the International Chemistry Olympiad and the International Mendeleev Olympiad has been held at the Institute of Chemistry, Faculty of Science, Eötvös Loránd University (ELTE TTK).

The International Chemistry Olympiad is the biggest competition for high school students interested in chemistry, in which Hungary has been a founding participant since its inception. This year's competition will take place in Riyadh, with the participation of youths from 90 countries. The Hungarian team was selected from the 23 most talented local students during a week-long preparatory event, held this year from April 8 to 17 at the Institute of Chemistry. During the program, the students engaged in lectures and laboratory practices from morning till evening, with instructors from ELTE, HUN-REN, BME, Richter Gedeon Plc., and NSzKK, most of whom were also former olympiad participants themselves.

The invited students had already proven themselves in academic competitions, as the best participants of the Chemistry National Secondary School Competition (OKTV) and the correspondence competition of the Chemistry Journal for Secondary School students (KÖKÉL) were invited to the preparatory event. However, to make it into the narrowed team framework, they had to pass through three five-hour theoretical and laboratory exams.

The program was realized with the support of ELTE, the National Talent Program (NTP-NTMV-23-B-0022), and the Hungarian Chemical Society.
