Outstanding performance at the CYPHER COST Action conference
András Szanthoffer, a PhD student at the György Hevesy Doctoral School of Chemistry, won the Best Poster Award at the 2nd General Meeting of the CYPHER COST Action, held in Kraków on May 19–21, 2025.

The CYPHER COST Action is a large-scale European collaboration aimed at reducing the environmental impact of energy-intensive industries through innovative solutions, drawing on advances in combustion sciences, fluid dynamics, and data science. The program is committed to leveraging the potential of multidisciplinary research to support the production of truly sustainable fuels, help reduce greenhouse gas emissions from energy-intensive industries, and work towards a more sustainable future.

András Szanthoffer and his colleagues — Máté Papp, Tibor Nagy, and Tamás Turányi — focus on investigating combustion models for ammonia and ammonia/hydrogen mixtures. As highlighted in the CYPHER COST Action’s announcement, their research represents an important step towards more reliable and cleaner alternative fuels.

A video interview with the awardees was also recorded and is available on the CYPHER COST Action LinkedIn page. In the interview, András answers questions about why his research is important, how he came to work in this field, and which literary or movie character he would associate with his research. Congratulations again on this achievement!
