Plant ecology

The focus of my research is the investigation of the mutual relationship between plants and their environment. In my work on plant ecophysiology, I explore the characteristics of plant water relations and photosynthesis in different grassland habitats. A prominent topic is the exploration of the ecological properties of plant species with C4 photosynthesis in Hungary. I study the effect of the smoke released during the burning of plant material on the germination of seeds and the sprouting of other plant propagules. I am also researching the germination capacity of plant seeds and the possibility of releasing their dormant state. I followed the population dynamics of a strictly protected plant species in Hungary for several decades and identified the most important influencing environmental factors. I also study the biology of alien and invasive plants.
