Main research areas
Iron and heavy metal uptake in plants
My research is primarily focused on the mechanism of heavy metal uptake by plants and the accumulation of heavy metals. Among the heavy metals, I mainly deal with the uptake of iron, the problem of iron deficiency and iron nutrition, the assimilation of iron compounds, including nanomaterials, which is important both from the agricultural, animal feed and human nutrition point of view, i.e. the biofortification of iron. I am investigating the uptake and effects of lead, cadmium, zinc, copper as toxic or potentially toxic heavy metals present in the environment, their interaction with iron, and the phytoextraction ability of plants, especially plants grown for biomass.
