The Faculty of Science at Eötvös Loránd University (ELTE) is launching a new Bachelor’s program in the autumn of 2026, offering students a gateway to the international scientific community and a research-oriented education comparable to the world’s leading institutions. The newly introduced, English-taught Chemistry BSc program covers the full spectrum of modern chemistry: from day one, students can expect solid theoretical foundations, intensive laboratory work, and exciting scientific projects.
At the heart of the training lies the region’s most advanced chemical teaching laboratory, the innovative Super Smart Laboratory (SSL) established at ELTE, where students work with the same instruments and methodologies used in Europe’s top research institutes. Over the three-year program, students not only gain a deep understanding of classical analytical, inorganic, organic, and physical chemistry, but also become familiar with the tools of digital chemistry and modern data-driven science. The curriculum is designed to gradually introduce them to laboratory techniques, guiding them from their first simple measurement tasks all the way to advanced specialization.
A key strength of the program is its international and inspiring environment, where young chemists from many different countries learn and work together. From the second year, students may choose between two specializations — Analytical Chemistry and Theoretical Chemistry — allowing them to deepen their knowledge according to their interests, whether in cutting-edge analytical methods or in mathematical models describing molecular behavior.
Graduates will find a remarkably wide range of career paths open to them: pharmaceutical research, materials science, environmental protection, laboratory analytics, as well as international MSc and PhD programs. The program is structured to help students easily join research groups and engage with real scientific problems even during their undergraduate years.
The English-language Chemistry BSc is ideal for those who wish to study chemistry in an international context, in a state-of-the-art laboratory environment, and earn a degree that opens professional opportunities anywhere in the world.
After completing the Bachelor’s program, students can smoothly continue their studies in ELTE’s fully English-taught Chemistry MSc program, and later progress to the internationally recognized, also English-taught György Hevesy Doctoral School of Chemistry, where they can prepare for the highest levels of a research career.
The Chemistry BSc is a tuition-based program primarily designed to meet the needs of international students, offering an especially attractive opportunity for those seeking high-quality, English-language science education in the heart of Europe.
