Main research areas
The primary focus of my research is on the individual, consistent behavior of animals, particularly studying the personality and cognition of dogs. Both personality and cognition play a fundamental role in how individuals interact with and respond to the world around them, and they are connected to behavioral issues, the human-dog bond, as well as health and lifespan. My research explores the structure, development, aging, regulation, and genetic and environmental correlates of personality and cognition. These findings can provide practical support to owners, trainers, and veterinarians in understanding dog behavior. Additionally, as dogs have proven to be effective model organisms in behavioral and behavioral genetics research, studying them can bring us closer to understanding the development and regulation of human personality and cognition.
