Main research areas
paleoenvironment and climate change
My main research interest is the investigation of the Quaternary prehistoric environments, primarily plant macrofossils and macrocharcoal in lake and marsh sediments of different ages. In addition to this, I am also involved in the micro- and macroscopic analysis of charred woody remains from ancient charcoal kilns, archaeological excavations, buried soils and lake and bog sediments. These analyses can provide a wide range of information on the environment of the sample source, such as changes in the species composition of forest stands, ancient cultures' use of wood and forest, or the occurrence of natural or artificial fires
