The Neuronal Cell Biology Research Group aims to discover novel regulators of synaptic and homeostatic plasticity of neurons and their contribution to memory formation. Besides working with dissociated primary rodent neural cultures, we involve acute hippocampal slices and organotypic slice cultures in our studies, supplemented with behavioural analysis in genetically modified mouse strains. We combine modern fluorescent live cell imaging techniques and quantitative microscopy, patch clamp and dynamic clamp electrophysiology and molecular biology tools to provide mechanistic explanations for regulatory pathways influencing activity-dependent and homeostatic regulation of neuronal network activity.
