Main research areas
Research field 1: Application of sol-gel preparation technique for inorganic oxides and silicates. The study is concentrated on the ultralight, high porosity, nanostructured materials (fibers, nanolayers, nanopowders, and monoliths).
Research field 2: Atomic (MAS NMR, FT-IR, XRD) and supramolecular (porosity, specific surface ares, SAXS, SANS, WAXS) structural investigation of materials.
Research field 3: The macroproperties of research samples are characterized by e.g. macro, micro mechanical strenght, elasticity, heat resistance, thermal conductivity, solubility).
Recycling of natural (cellulose) and industrial wastes (red mud) as functional and structural materials. Thin composite layers of highly porous silica particles and various cellulose matrixs possess excellent thermal and electrical proctections. The red mud combined with geopolymer can be utilised as structural materials. The pretreated red mud can be functinalised for degradation of organic contaminants in water.
