Triassic stratigraphy and carbonate microfacies

My research focuses on the stratigraphy and microfacies analysis of Triassic marine sedimentary rocks. Primarily, I work on the conodont biostratigraphy of carbonate rocks of basin facies. Conodonts are the microscopic tooth-like elements of an extinct jawless vertebrate group, which are particularly applicable for dating rocks due to their rapid evolution, widespread paleogeographical distribution and high resistance to alterations. Understanding the evolutionary trends of conodonts supports the establishment of a fine biozonation. Beside precise age data, information on the depositional environment can be gained based on microfacies analysis. This knowledge is essential for the understanding of the geology of an area either for scientific or for industrial purposes.
