Biomineralization is a highly regulated process, which produces mineral-organics nanocomposite structures tailored for a specific function, like protection, support, biting etc. The mechanical performance of these biological nanomaterials exceeds notably that of the pure constituent mineral. One of my focus materials is bioapatite. The aim of my research is to shed light how atomic structure and nanoscale organization are suited to the performance.
